The teachings of Buddhism to the modern world Your life with balance and enlightenment
Our History
Ta Hsiung Buddhist Association was founded by Huei-Chun Chiu in 1977 as a temple located in Taipei, Taiwan. The association serves the vital spiritual and cultural needs of the local community and is dedicated to preserving and promoting the teachings of Buddhism. In 1985, the association erected a Guanyin statue in Daan Park, and in 1990, it pioneered the first-ever Buddhist Boy Scout program, which was later adopted by other temples.
The current abbot of Ta Hsiung Buddhist Temple is Ming Kuang, who was ordained at the temple in 1978 and became its abbot in 1983. He has held various leadership roles within the Buddhist community, including serving as the vice chair of the Buddhist Association in Taiwan in 2010 and as a National Policy Advisor to the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in 2012. In 2022, he was appointed as a permanent director of the Buddhist Association in Taiwan.
In 1989, Ta Hsiung Buddhist Association opened a branch in Berkeley, California and was recognized as a California nonprofit organization.
In 2023, the association began to propagate the Dharma in the digital age under the name “The Middle Cosmos.” Through this platform, we fund and produce high-quality content related to Buddhism, its connections to science, and living with a Buddhist philosophy on YouTube and other video platforms. Our goal is to bring the teachings of Buddhism to a wider audience and facilitate a deeper understanding of this ancient tradition.
